Provenance note:: The school was funded by the Juilius Rosenwald Fund and the Slater Fund as a school for African American students with Professor C. A. Barrett as the first principal.
Architectural note:: The marble cornerstone of the current structure exists from an earlier building, one of the first schools for African Americans in Randolph County.
Historical note:: The school was initially called the Randolph County Training School, and was later renamed Central School. The school closed in 1969 after integration of the school systems in Randolph County. County agencies utilized the building until 1981, when a local neighborhood organization bought the property for community use. The school is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
