- Provenance note:
- The house was built for Dr. William Mitchell, first owner. After his death in 1848, the house passed to Jonathan White, Josiah T. White, and Francis E. Winslow, second owners. The house was sold to Hardy Ward in 1874, and remained in the family until the present.
- Architectural note:
- The house is unique because it possesses the only carved gable fanlight in the county. The house also has an asymmetrical three bay facade with the entrance flanking a central window bay. The house also has the only enclosed stair associated with a side hall plan in the county.

- The structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
