Provenance note:
The complex acted as both a home and school for William J. Bingham, first owner, and his sons.
Architectural note:
The initial house existing when Bingham bought the property is now the rear ell of the current house. Outbuildings from the nineteenth century still exist on the site.
Historical note:
The Binghams operated several schools in North Carolina. The school is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
