Building: Woodfield Inn (Flat Rock, Henderson County, North Carolina)

Provenance note:
Andrew Johnstone (innkeeper) and Mitchell King (innkeeper) built the inn, first owners.
Historical note:
The hotel was built in the picturesque mode that was popular in Flat Rock in the nineteenth century. The building is claimed to be the oldest operating inn in the state, and the building's builder-contractor, H.T. Farmer, later served as its innkeeper.
Architectural note:
The inn is an example of the popularity of the picturesque mode in nineteenth century Flat Rock. It is a three-story, hip-roofed structure, with lattice-framed arches.
