- Provenance note:
- The house was built for James Pell Speight, a planter and politician, on land given to him by his father, Methodist minister Seth Speight. The property has been in the Bynum family since the late nineteenth century.
- Architectural note:
- The house represents a combination of the Greek Revival and Italianate styles. The property is also home to several surviving outbuildings, including a smokehouse and mid-twentieth century agricultural buildings.
