Summer 2025 closure

The D. H. Hill Jr. Library will be closed beginning on Monday, May 5, 2025, for planned electrical work. The Special Collections Research Center is located in Hill Library, and will be closed for all appointments during this period. Special Collections can only make appointment requests until April 25th and after August 3, 2025. During the closure, Special Collections staff will be available to answer questions about our collections, if they are accessible, and to support researchers using digital materials for their research. Provenance note:
Patty Person Taylor, first owner.
Historical note:
Patty Person Taylor, first owner, was sister of Revolutionary leader Thomas Person. She bought the land from her brother in 1783, and married in 1785. She probably built the house soon afterward. The residence was constructed in the late eighteenth century, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Architectural note:
This five-bay Georgian plantation house is one of only a few homes in Franklin County with a center-passage plan. An original one-story rear ell extends from the main house.
