- Architectural note:
- The original 1 1/2 story section of the house, done in the Federal style, is laid out in a hall-parlor plan. The Greek Revival second story and rear wing were added in 1838 and were constructed by both free and slave laborers. The plantation complex is remarkably complete, and the property also includes a cotton gin, smokehouse, doctor's office, barns and a corncrib.
