Provenance note:
The house was built for the Cliftons, a family associated with the local mill and mill pond.
Architectural note:
The house is mostly Greek Revival in style, with an ornate double porch and brackets. These elements, and other millwork found in the house, suggest the influence of Jacob Holt, a builder from Warrenton.
Historical note:
Clifton House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
