Provenance note:
The house was built for William A. Jeffreys and his wife Martha Hart Jeffreys on land inherited from William's father, William M. Jeffreys.
Architectural note:
The house has a pedimented center block, which was common in the Federal period and also exhibits Greek Revival details.
Historical note:
William A. Jeffreys died at age 29 and was buried in a boulder on the land. A state highway marker notes this "unique tomb." The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
