- The house was built for Jesse Clement (planter, tanner, politician, merchant, and Methodist leader) around the time of his marriage to Malinda Nail.
- Architectural note:
- This two-story home exemplifies the local architecture of the period. The front and west walls are done in Flemish-bond brick, while the other two are common bond.
