Architectural note:
The courthouse interior was burned by Union troops during the Civil War and rebuilt in 1867. The cupola was added in the early twentieth century.
Historical note:
The architectural focal point of Lexington, the courthouse is considered the finest constructed in the antebellum period. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
