Building: Belden-Horne House and Barges Tavern (Fayetteville, Cumberland County, North Carolina)

Built:
Street:
519 Ramsey Street
Community:
Fayetteville
State:
North Carolina
Zip:
28301
Provenance note:
The house was built for Simeon Belden shortly after his original house was destroyed in the 1831 fire. The neighboring structure was believed to have been a tavern.
Architectural note:
The Belden-Horne House exhibits the Federal style with added Greek Revival touches. The double porches are especially striking. Barges Tavern, next door, is a survivor of the many small frame houses that were once prevalent in Fayetteville.
Historical note:
Both the Belden-Horne House and Barges Tavern were moved from their original locations, the house only a few blocks north and the tavern from its location near the old courthouse downtown. Both structures are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
