Summer 2025 closure

The D. H. Hill Jr. Library will be closed beginning on Monday, May 5, 2025, for planned electrical work. The Special Collections Research Center is located in Hill Library, and will be closed for all appointments during this period. Special Collections can only make appointment requests until April 25th and after August 3, 2025. During the closure, Special Collections staff will be available to answer questions about our collections, if they are accessible, and to support researchers using digital materials for their research. Provenance note:
Beverly Hall was built for John Bonner Blount (private banker) and was later expanded by William Badham (merchant). Later, the home belonged to Dr. Richard Dillard and his wife Mary Louisa Beverly Cross Dillard. The house then passed to their son, Dr. Richard Dillard, Jr.
Architectural note:
This two-story Federal house is the most elaborate in Edenton. When the structure was enlarged in the 1850s, Gothic Revival elements were added, including an arched doorway on the east side.
