Summer 2025 closure

The D. H. Hill Jr. Library will be closed beginning on Monday, May 5, 2025, for planned electrical work. The Special Collections Research Center is located in Hill Library, and will be closed for all appointments during this period. Special Collections can only make appointment requests until April 25th and after August 3, 2025. During the closure, Special Collections staff will be available to answer questions about our collections, if they are accessible, and to support researchers using digital materials for their research. Provenance note:
The house was probably built for Samuel Moore, a local tobacco planter.
Architectural note:
The home is noted to be one of the most handsome Federal-style homes in the Piedmont of North Carolina. It is a two-story brick structure, built on a raised basement, which is part of the façade, an element unusual for the region. The Federal trim may be a later addition.
Historical note:
The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
