Architectural note:
The station's distinctive feature was its sixty-five foot tall tower.
Historical note:
The station was built to consolidate the many separate passenger depots in Durham. The increasing popularity of the automobile as a form of transportation led to the decline of railroad stations and Union Station ended service in 1964. The structure was demolished in 1968 to provide room for the construction of a parking lot.
