- First Avenue
- Community:
- Hickory
- State:
- North Carolina
- Provenance note:

- Architectural note:
- In 1957, the home underwent reconstruction, gaining plumbing and a stairway. This log house, although of very simple plan and construction, represents a type of building which was so much a part of our early history and so prevalent at one time, unfortunately only a few examples remain.
- Historical note:
- The Joe Wilson House was built in 1820, ten miles south of Hickory on the Startown road. The property on which the house was built later became the Henry C. Cline property. Joe Wilson assisted in the creation of Catawba County from Lincoln County. The house was occupied until the early 1900's when the last of Mr. Wilson's descendants moved out. In 1952 the Catawba County Historical Society became interested in the house and through the efforts of Raymond Hefner, mayor of Hickory and president of the Historical Society. In 1952, the house was moved Startown Road to the Old Robinson Cemetery on First Avenue. All the remains at the original location is a well and the foundations of a potato house.
