- Architectural note:
- The home is used as an example of the West Indies-inspired architecture used in Beaufort. The structure was renovated around 1965.
- Historical note:
- The building is claimed to be the oldest home in Beaufort. Referred to as the White House on old maps, the home served as a landmark to help guide mariners into the inlet. The building also functioned as an inn where Blackbeard was rumored to have stayed. The house provides the backdrop to many Beaufort ghost stories. The home lies within the boundaries of the Beaufort Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
