Built:
Street:
706 W. 2nd Street
Community:
Washington
State:
North Carolina
Zip:

Architectural note:
The property retains the qualities of an in-town antebellum estate, including brick outbuildings. After the building was moved, small additions were added, such as closets and a cellar. The grounds were landscaped leaving the kitchen in its original location and the original foundations were used as an attraction for the garden.

The Hollyday House, originally named the Brown House, was built by Major John Blount approximately between 1800 and 1826. During the the Civil War the house was used as a Union Hospital. The Union Army removed all but one of the marble mantles. The house was moved in 1927 to approximately 100 feet south of its original location.
Provenance note:
Built by Major John Blount; the house has been sold and willed to several families and owned by Richard W. McEwan of Whippany, New Jersey.
