Architectural note:: The one hundred feet deep well was constructed of locally made brick, and was designed and built by F. D. Giddens in 1867.
Historical note:: Mr. F.D Giddens came to Goldsboro in 1859. He had the will dug in the same year. It was 100 feet deep and bricked in with brick from Waynesboro, which was the original site of Goldsboro. Mr. Giddens designed and built the well house in 1867. Later it became a favorite stopping place for passengers who were traveling by stagecoach along the Old Coach Road that ran from Raleigh to New Bern, N.C.
