Provenance note:
The Battle home was constructed in 1835 by Benjamin D. Battle (first owner), a son of Joel Battle, founder of Rocky Mount Mills.
Historical note:
In 1863, the Federal Cavalry burned the mill, but the officer in charged spared the home because he and the superintendent of the mill were both Masons. Home remains part of the mill ensemble, housing the company's main office.
Architectural note:
The building has been carefully restored to preserve all the old details.
