- The church was built for a Moravian congregation.
- Architectural note:
- The building's design, with the higher roof line and cupola on the east portion, delineated between the two functions the church served. The eastern section of the building held the chapel, while the western section functioned as the pastor's residence and schoolroom.
- Historical note:
- The structure is North Carolina's oldest church building west of Hillsborough. The church is located within Bethabara, which is designated a National Historic Landmark District. The church is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
