In 1904, Reverend R. P. Smith opened the doors of Mountain Orphanage.
Historical note:
The orphanage was originally a small four-room cottage in Haywood County, NC. Today, that ministry has developed into Black Mountain Home for Children, Youth & Families in Black Mountain, NC, where 36 orphaned, abandoned and abused youngsters are cared for in a loving, home-style environment. http://go.ncsu.edu/preshomeforchildren
