Provenance note:
The house was built for William S. Battle, a major investor in Rocky Mount Mills. Battle was the first owner.
Architectural note:
The exterior combines Italianate and classical motifs.
Historical note:
The Barracks gets its name from a military encampment that once occupied the site. One of William Percival's two surviving suburban villas from the 1850s, the home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
