From Natural Gardens (pages 5-6): "On the sand-flat just above high tide, a seedling sea oats (Uniola paniculata) plant becomes established. When its leaves extend above the surface, a small windbrake is formed, with the immediate result that a tiny mound of sand accumulates behind and against the little leaf cluster (Fig. 3)..."
