- As a freshman at North Carolina State University, Mark Elliot earned all-American honors in swimming, and continued to earn all-American his entire college career. He won gold medals as part of a relay team at the World University Games in Moscow in 1973 and set ACC records in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events and the 400-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relays. He was part of the 1973 NCSU swim team that won all eighteen events at the ACC tournament and finished 8th at the NCAA finals.
