State University, shows a sample elastic gauze bandage to textile Dean David Chaney (left) and former Governor Luther Hodges. Goldthwait, who is marking his 60th year in textile chemistry research, developed the bandage used during and since World War II by the Armed Forces. A veteran textile executive, Hodges is now chairman of the board for the Research Triangle Foundation.
