Yarbrough, Mary Elizabeth, 1904-

Biographical Note:
Yarbrough received her M.S. in Chemistry from N.C.State College in 1927, the first year the college awarded degrees to women. Yarbrough received her Ph.D. from Duke University in 1941. She taught Chemistry at Meredith College beginning in 1929. Her father, Louis T. Yarbrough, was a member of the first graduating class of N.C. State College in 1893. Mary E. Yarbrough was "the first woman to earn a degree at NCSU, earned completely on campus and in competition with men students." The dedication of the Mary E. Yarbrough Court was made in April 1987.
