Colwell, William E. (William Earle), 1915-

Biographical Note:
William E. Colwell received his B.S. from the University of Nebraska, his M.S. from the University of Idaho, and his Ph.D. from Cornell University. Colwell joined NC State as Associate Professor of Agronomy and Associate Agronomist in 1942. He left the University briefly in 1944 to become Soils Scientist with the Rockefeller Foundation but returned as Professor of Agronomy in 1946. Colwell was appointed Head of the Department of Agronomy in 1948 followed by another promotion to the position of Assistant Director of the Agricultural Experiment Station in charge of tobacco research in 1953.
