Provenance note:: William Marriott, first owner, passed the house to his son, Benjamin Marriott and his wife Aley Terrell, second owners, in 1812. The house then passed to Jennie Marriott, Benjamin's daughter with his second wife, Mary Hopkins. Jennie and her husband, Isaac Proctor, third owners, had a son, Ivan Proctor, who married his cousin Lucy Biggs Marriott, and their ten grandchildren owned the property into the twentieth century.
Historical note:: The house dates to the late eighteenth century, and was remodeled in the early nineteenth century. The stables and barn were built before the Civil War.
