Provenance note:
First owner, Archibald Leslie (Scots tailor), built the initial structure in the 1840s. Second owner, G. B. Alford (Confederate veteran and merchant), made additions.
Architectural note:
The house was built in stages from the 1840s to the 1940s. In the 1870s Alford added the top floor and widow's walk.
Historical note:
The structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places
