Building: Bellamy, John Mansion (Wilmington, New Hanover County, North Carolina)

Provenance note:
Dr. John Bellamy (physician, turpentine planter, and director of the Bank of the Cape Fear and the Wilmington and Weldon Railroad), first owner
Architectural note:
James F. Post served as both the architect and contractor of the house. The home combines Italianate and classical motifs and Corinthian order columns. On the grounds, slave quarters still survive, providing a rare example of the antebellum urban building type.
Historical note:
The home served as an officer's quarters during the Civil War. The house now functions as the Museum of History and Design Arts in Wilmington. It now lies within the boundaries of the Wilmington Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
